Batting Flop? Take it as Red

The Sunday Age, January 1994

At last we've found a senior cricket team that sets targets even the Aussies could get (on a good day).

The Reds - that accurately describes the color of their faces - last weekend were rolled for five in the Mercantile B Grade competition. That's right, five - and that included a no-ball.

Reds captain Ken Norling was quick to point out that his team batted two short and that the wicket was a 'sticky'.

Only two batsmen scored, and one (Dorothy, from Miss Dorothy and his Fools in Love) notched his fourth successive duck.

'There were about five games at Fawkner Park and I reckon that 20 or 25 wikcets must have gone down in those games during the first 45 minutes.

"Sure, our collapse was bit extreme, but the conditions were pretty bloody ordinary,' Norling said.

Despite making 80-odd in the second dig, the Reds still lost outright in a day.
